The Georgia Southern–Georgia State rivalry is a college athletics rivalry between the Georgia Southern University Eagles and Georgia State University Panthers. Also known as the Battle for GSU and Modern Day Hate. Both schools are members of the Sun Belt Conference. While the teams have only met once in football (due to Georgia State beginning their program in 2010), the rivalry began in the 1980s in other sports. ==History== Although Georgia Southern and Georgia State have only competed each other in football since 2014, the rivalry can be looked back in the 1980s on the basketball court as both schools participated in the Atlantic Sun Conference (then the TAAC) between 1983 and 1992. Since both schools share of the same abbreviation "GSU" it has been a point of conflict between the two schools fan-bases with both universities claiming that they are, in fact, the real GSU. Georgia State lays claim to the initials as it became a university (and therefore GSU) long before Georgia Southern did (in 1990; Georgia State became a university in 1969). Also, Georgia State's URL and official logo's both contain the acronym. Georgia Southern, however, wishes for the right of ownership since they have had a football team for a much longer time than Georgia State, and during that time managed to win 6 national championships. It should be noted, however, that Georgia Southern makes note that GSU is not an official abbreviation for the school, and generally uses GS in their own branding.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://news.georgiasouthern.edu/marketing/pdf/id-standards-manual.pdf )〕 The beginning of the football rivalry was initiated after the hire of former Appalachian State (a major rival of Georgia Southern) athletic director Charlie Cobb to the same position at GSU. During Georgia State's press release introducing Cobb, he revealed that Georgia Southern's athletic director Tom Kleinlein had told0 him "welcome, now the war is on." The two teams met on the gridiron during the 2014 football season at Georgia Dome. During the run up to the game, fans from both teams expressed their dislike for the other over social media outlets such as Twitter, at times trending with tags of "SouthernNotState" and "StateNotSouthern" both of which were used as slogans for shirts given out by both universities. During the period before the game, fans dubbed the matchup as "Modern Day Hate," a play on the rivalry between Georgia Tech and UGA, Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate. The game would go on to draw the second largest crowd of any Georgia State game at 28,427, with the final score ending with Georgia Southern beating Georgia State 69 to 31. Currently, Georgia Southern leads the rivalry, 1–0. In 2015 both the Georgia schools will be adding a yet-to-be-announced trophy to the rivalry. The trophy will be awarded to the school that defeats the other in a points-based system that encompasses all sports, as well as community service and academics. Football will be counted as 2-points and will be total at the end of an academic school year along with all the other points and whomever has the highest total amount of points will receive the trophy. 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Georgia Southern–Georgia State rivalry」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
